Thank you for downloading our Preschool Assessment. It was developed by Beth Costanzo after more than a decade of teaching pre-school. It highlights many of the basic skills children entering Kindergarten will need to have mastered.
When completing this assessment, be as honest and objective as possible. Check the boxes beside skills that your child has clearly mastered. Boxes that have not been checked indicate areas that need more practice. Remember, every child is different and unique, and therefore may not master skills at the same time or rate as another child. Be patient and enjoy learning about your child as you work your way through the following pages.
We recommend working on this assessment over the course of a few days to minimize frustration. If you try to do too much at once your child may become tired or bored and therefore may not do as well as he or she would if they were rested and eager for a new activity.
This assessment should be used for informational purposes only. It is meant to be used as a guideline to help you gauge your child’s developmental progress. It is not meant to be used to diagnose learning disabilities or other special needs. Should you notice significant difficulties or deficiencies while completing this evaluation with your child, we recommend that you contact your pediatrician. If your child will be entering Kindergarten, you can also contact the special education department at the elementary school that he or she will be attending to discuss your concerns. You know your child better than anyone. You are their advocate. If you suspect that your child suffers from learning difficulties or developmental delays, contact the appropriate professionals for a complete evaluation. Do not rely on this assessment for a diagnosis.
